Ban: Women belong at center of peacemaking efforts
Women need and deserve to be at the heart of all peacemaking efforts around the world and the Security Council must seek ways to make peace talks more inclusive, said United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Peace agreements are increasingly taking gender equality into consideration, noted UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

Ban proposes UN fund to help Haitian cholera victims
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has proposed a $400 million cholera response package to assist Haitians who contracted cholera due to UN peacekeepers in the country. "We want to do this because we think it's the right thing to do for the Haitian people, but frankly speaking, it's the right thing to do for the United Nations," said Jan Eliasson, the UN deputy secretary-general.

Survey: More than half of female aid workers have faced sexual harassment
Fifty-five percent of female international aid workers have experienced sexual harassment at work, according to a survey of more than 1,000 women by the Humanitarian Women's Network. Further, 48% of the women reported unwanted touching and 20% said they had experienced physical aggression.
